Proposal for Extraordinary ENAS General Assembly

ENAS - Proposal for Extraordinary General Assembly
Date & Time: 15th September 2021;  3.00pm CET

Dear Member,

On behalf of the Executive Committee (EC), I am writing to notify you that we are proposing to hold an Extraordinary General Assembly of ENAS on 15th September 2021. This is to consider a single proposal from the Committee –“ to postpone the elections for officers for 1 year”. The Extraordinary General Assembly will take place on Zoom and participants will be able to vote online through a link which will be activated during the virtual session.

The past 16 months of the pandemic has had a major effect on all of us. We have experienced many challenges in the delivery of activity in our institutions, and we’ve all had to adapt and develop new ways of working. The EC has met regularly on a virtual basis, and indeed we held last year’s ENAS General Assembly on Zoom.  As you’ll all be aware, we have been forced to move this year’s Forum in Stirling to an on-line format, and to also hold this year’s General Assembly again on Zoom.

A major benefit of the ENAS network is the opportunity to meet people in-person, and to exchange ideas, share experiences, and to learn from each other. These opportunities have been severely hampered by the pandemic and the cancellation of last year’s Forum. On-line events have proven to be quite valuable, but they’re not quite the same, I’m sure you’ll agree.

The election of officers is an integral part of our governance processes, and the frequency and procedure of how we do this is specified within our Articles of Association. The opportunity for the membership to engage with prospective candidates is, we believe, a fundamental aspect of the process, and this has not, and will not be possible, until we are able to meet again at our Forum in 2022. We are therefore proposing to postpone the ENAS officer elections for one year.

As this proposal is outside the existing Articles of Association, we require formal approval from the Membership for this to be agreed. This is the requirement for the Extraordinary General Assembly. If the proposal is approved by two thirds of our membership, we will postpone elections for one year and hold the elections in 2022. If the proposal is not approved, we still have time to comply with the formal processes for nomination of candidates in time for elections to take place virtually at our 2021 General Assembly on 12th November.

We kindly ask you to confirm your attendance by replying to this letter (officer@enas-sport.net) or, alternatively, by filling this form: https://forms.gle/KJvMyk5fWmKwbwka9 no later than 31 August.

I do hope you agree with the rationale for our proposal, and we look forward to seeing you at the E-GA on 15th September. In the meantime, have a great summer, and hope you’re all able to have some time for rest and relaxation.

Mel Parker, ENAS President
On behalf of the Executive Committee
