University Sport in Europe and beyond

ENAS – European Network of Academic Sports Services – is a non-governmental, membership-based organization, dedicated to enhancing university sports services across Europe.

Founded in 1997 in Chambéry, France, ENAS today brings together more than 100 member institutions from 15 European countries, all sharing a common commitment: promoting sport and physical activity within higher education.

University sport in Europe is organised differently in each country. This diversity makes collaboration and shared objectives essential. ENAS serves as the platform that connects university sports services across borders, aligning common goals while respecting national specificities.

Sport is an integral part of university life. It enhances students’ social, mental, and physical well-being, while supporting the broader educational mission of higher education institutions. Through sport, students develop lifelong skills such as teamwork, leadership, resilience, and community engagement. University sport also plays a key role in attracting, recruiting, and retaining students, while strengthening alumni connections and celebrating talent, excellence, and achievement.

Our network actively promotes the development of sport and physical activity within European universities. With a target group of several million students and thousands of university sport service professionals, ENAS acts as an integrative force within the European sport and education landscape.

Working alongside key partners, ENAS provides valuable opportunities for its members — primarily university sports centres — to exchange experiences, share best practices, and support one another’s development through collaboration, networking, and innovative initiatives, thereby strengthening university sport and promoting active, inclusive campus and sports communities across Europe.
