During the summer, Vilnius University Health & Sport Centre organised their third international “University Summer Challenge 2018”. More than 1,500 students, professors, administrative staff and other employees from five different countries competed in this summer’s project. Participants from eighteen universities recorded their physical activity on the project’s platform, and by doing this, gained points for their universities.
The project’s home country Lithuania was represented by eleven universities: Vilniaus Kolegija / University of Applied Sciences, Vilnius Gediminas Technical University, Vilnius Universitety, Vytautas Magnus Universitety, Šiauliai University, Mykolas Romeris University, Klaipėda University, Lithuanian Sports University, Lithuanian University of Health Sciences, Kauno Kolegija / University of Applied Sciences and Kaunas University of Technology.
Seven foreign higher education institutions also joined the Project: Kiel University and Berlin University (Germany), Keele University and Middlesex University (Great Britain), University of Lisbon and University of Porto (Portugal), and The Academic College at Wingate (Israel).

“University Summer Challenge” is a lively project, which aims to increase physical activity within academic communities in universities by challenging them into associating the academic world with active lifestyle, and physical activity with fun.
The results of the project are pleasing – the participants registered an average of 33 minutes of physically active time per day – this corresponds to the recommendations of World Health Organisation to be physically active for at least 30 minutes each day. “University Summer Challenge” will take place again next summer – we invite every university and its community to join and become more active!
As spring begins, let’s start to prepare for the summer!
Vilnius University’s Health and Sport Centre would like to share a unique opportunity with you to maintain and boost physical activity within your University’s community during this summer!
Join the University Summer Challenge! It’s a challenge that is accepted by hundreds of Lithuanian and European university students and employees.
The aim of the project is to increase physical activity within academic communities in universities by challenging them into associating their academic world with active lifestyle and physical activity with fun.
University Summer Challenge provides means for community members from different universities to register their physical activity (type, intensity and duration) on a website during the summer.
The registration window starts on 1 June and finishes on 31 August. The project focuses on the social snow-ball effect idea that results bring more results, in other words: competing with oneself, one’s teammates (students, professors, administration, etc.) and one’s rivals motivates and unites the competitors for the common goal of a healthy life-style!
More about the project and how to participate can be found here.
Vilnius University Health and Sport Centre invites you to take this challenge and become stronger together!
